Divorce-themed cocktails 🍹for the holidays
I don't know about you, but when I was in the midst of my divorce, the phrase "the holidays are coming" filled me with the same anxiety I felt with the Game of Thrones line, "winter is coming." It can be just too much.
So for a moment of levity, I created for you five cocktail recipes that pair well with divorce and separation..
The No-Fault
Ingredients
2 oz vodka
One dash of bitters
Directions: Select a clear glass, call your ex over and make this drink together, each adding one ounce of vodka to the same glass. In turn, each take a single sip from the glass, then add a dash of bitters directly into your mouth. Pour the rest of the drink down the drain.
Tasting: This transparent cocktail offers no surprises. Over time, it may yield a bitter aftertaste.
The Dating App
Ingredients
2 oz Spiced rum
½ oz Ginger liqueur
Directions: Rim a coupe glass with trepidation, combine ingredients with bravery, and serve hot. Allow to cool slowly while consuming.
Tasting: Note the novel combination of sweet and spicy, but be aware it can sour quickly.
The Other Woman
Ingredients
Grenadine syrup
Sparkling wine, the cheapest you can get
Directions: Garnish with candy ring pop. Best paired with a mid-life crisis.
Tasting: Saccharine, yet with the subtle aftertaste of regret.
The Other Man
Ingredients
5 oz Whiskey
Directions: Serve neat in a glass cowboy boot, with a tall drink of water. Note that this does not pair well with emotional intelligence.
The Co-Dependent
Ingredients
1 oz Bourbon
1 oz Midori melon liqueur
Directions: Add ingredients to ice, but call your ex over to shake it.
In all seriousness though, how are you doing?
If you’re in the middle of a life transition (divorce, separation, even just thinking about it) the external pressures of the holidays can be just too much. I hope you’re able to find a quiet moment, a corner of joy, to get you through.
